Project 1
Group Report and Presentation
Design Process
I was tasked with conducting in-depth research and architectural analysis on two significant buildings: Moritzburg Castle and Chiswick House. Both of these structures are prime examples from the Age of Enlightenment, a period marked by the rise of reason, scientific inquiry, and a renewed interest in classical architecture. My assignment involved exploring the architectural features, historical context, and cultural significance of these buildings, examining how they reflect the ideals and aesthetic principles of their time.
After completing the research and analysis, I was required to compile my findings into an A4-sized booklet. This booklet serves as a detailed documentation of Moritzburg Castle and Chiswick House, using a combination of photos, notes, and diagrams to provide a comprehensive understanding of their architectural and historical importance. The booklet aims to present a clear and visually appealing narrative of how these buildings embody the Enlightenment's influence on architecture, highlighting their unique characteristics and contributions to the architectural heritage of the period.
In addition to the booklet, I was also responsible for creating a poster that integrates augmented reality (AR) technology. This aspect of the project involved using various applications to develop an interactive AR experience that enhances the presentation of Moritzburg Castle and Chiswick House. The poster not only visually represents the buildings but also allows viewers to engage with them in a dynamic and immersive way through the use of AR apps. This innovative approach adds a modern, interactive dimension to the architectural analysis, making the project both informative and engaging for the audience.

Self-Reflection
Throughout Project 1, I have delved into the rich history and theory of architecture, focussing particularly on the buildings of the Age of Enlightenment. This exploration has included a detailed study of architects, architectural layouts, key architectural elements, and the building materials that were commonly used during this period. My research was centred around two iconic structures: Moritzburg Castle and Chiswick House. Through this project, I gained a comprehensive understanding of how these buildings reflect the principles of Enlightenment architecture, from their design and construction to the philosophies that influenced their creators.
In addition to expanding my knowledge of architectural history, Project 1 also provided me with the exciting opportunity to explore Augmented Reality (AR) for the first time. Incorporating AR into my work was both a challenging and rewarding experience, allowing me to merge traditional architectural analysis with cutting-edge technology. The process of creating AR elements was incredibly fun and provided a unique way to bring the historical aspects of Moritzburg Castle and Chiswick House to life. This hands-on experience with AR has significantly broadened my skill set and opened up new possibilities for presenting architectural concepts.
The combination of face-to-face learning and the use of MyTimes resources greatly enhanced my ability to grasp complex concepts and complete the project effectively. Studying with a group of friends made the learning process more engaging and collaborative, and our discussions were particularly fruitful in refining our ideas and ensuring that our work was cohesive and well-rounded.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Camelia, my tutor, whose guidance and useful advice were invaluable throughout Project 1. Her expertise and support helped me navigate the challenges of the project, and her encouragement played a key role in my success. Her mentorship has been instrumental in my growth as a student of architecture.
