Project 2
Sketching Analysis (Individual)
Design Process
I was tasked with conducting in-depth research and architectural analysis on five selected heritage buildings. This assignment required me to thoroughly examine each building, focussing on its architectural significance, historical context, and the unique elements that contribute to its cultural value.
After gathering and analysing this information, I was then required to compile my findings into an A4-sized sketchbook. This booklet serves as comprehensive documentation of the heritage buildings, where I used a combination of sketches, photos, notes, and diagrams to illustrate and support my analysis. Each page of the booklet is designed to convey not only the architectural details of these buildings but also to capture their essence and historical importance through visual and written evidence.

Self-Reflection
Throughout Project 2, I have immersed myself in the study of the history and theory of modern Malaysian architecture, gaining valuable insights through literature review and document analysis. This deep dive into the architectural heritage of Malaysia has enriched my understanding of how modern architectural principles have been adapted and interpreted within the Malaysian context. By examining key texts and documents, I have been able to trace the evolution of architectural styles and ideas that have shaped modern Malaysian architecture.
This project has also significantly enhanced my visual and critical thinking skills. By learning from precedents and engaging in diagramming exercises, I was able to analyse and deconstruct various architectural examples, gaining a deeper understanding of the basic principles of form, space, and order that are fundamental to the design of modern Malaysian architecture. This process allowed me to appreciate how these principles are applied in practice, providing a solid foundation for my own design thinking.
The combination of face-to-face learning and utilising resources on MyTimes has greatly benefited my learning process. Working collaboratively with a group of friends has been particularly effective, as it allowed us to exchange ideas, discuss different perspectives, and challenge each other’s thinking, leading to a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Dr. Camelia, my tutor, whose guidance and supportive advice have been crucial throughout Project 2. Her expertise and encouragement have helped me navigate the complexities of modern Malaysian architecture, and her mentorship has been instrumental in my academic and professional growth.
