Project 2

Passive Green Building Strategies Report (Individual) –
Integrated with Architectural Design Studio Project 4

Design Process

For this project, I focused on applying passive green building strategies to a tropical architectural design as part of Architectural Design Studio Project 4. The aim was to explore how strategies such as site planning, building orientation, daylighting, façade design, natural ventilation, strategic landscaping, and the use of renewable energy can enhance both sustainability and user comfort within a building.

I conducted extensive online research to understand the technical aspects and practical applications of these strategies in tropical climates. This included studying relevant architectural materials and structural systems that support natural ventilation, energy efficiency, and occupant wellbeing. I carefully documented my findings through detailed notes, diagrams, and images, which allowed me to analyse the effectiveness of each strategy in improving spatial quality and overall building performance.

The research was then integrated into my design work for Studio Project 4, ensuring that passive strategies were not only theoretically understood but also practically applied in the architectural design. I organised all the findings in a visually clear and structured format, supporting both the design process and the creation of project deliverables, including detailed diagrams and illustrative presentation materials.

A3 Booklet

Self-Reflection

Throughout Project 2, I gained valuable knowledge about passive green building strategies and their application in tropical architectural design. I developed a deeper understanding of how strategies such as site planning, building orientation, daylighting, façade design, natural ventilation, strategic landscaping, and the use of renewable energy can enhance both sustainability and user experience. Through extensive online research, I was able to explore the technical aspects of these strategies and analyse their impact on building performance and spatial quality. This research experience enriched my understanding and strengthened my ability to evaluate design strategies in a comprehensive and critical manner.

Project 2 also provided an opportunity to integrate these passive strategies directly into Architectural Design Studio Project 4, allowing me to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical design context. Conducting online research, compiling diagrams, and documenting findings helped me develop my skills in visual communication and organisation, which were essential for the creation of both the A0 infographic poster and the A4 landscape booklet.

I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Siti Norzaini for her guidance throughout the project. Her insightful advice and constructive feedback were instrumental in helping me navigate challenges and approach the project with confidence, ultimately contributing to the successful completion of the assignment.
